Amazed By You is a wig and specialty boutique located at 113 W. Oak Street in Historic Downtown Wylie. The owner, Gail Parker, is a 9-year breast cancer survivor. Gail’s part-time employee, Janice Harkins, is an 11-year breast cancer survivor. Both of them are knowledgeable about the emotions and needs of cancer patients and survivors. Amazed By You derived its name from all of the amazing and courageous people Gail met during her breast cancer journey.
Amazed By You offers a large selection of fashionable wigs in beautiful colors and styles. The boutique’s wig clientele is not limited to women going through cancer and includes individuals with Alopecia and thinning hair, as well as women who just enjoy the fun and flexibility of wearing wigs.
Gail has attended training classes for hair replacement by “Aderans and Hair U Wear”, which are top companies for a wig and top pieces. Gail has been trained on wig alterations and hair color so your wig or top piece will fit perfectly and match your hair color.
Gail and Janice have been trained by “Juzo”, a company leading the industry in compression garments. Breast cancer survivors may and can develop Lymphedema due to lymph node removal during a lumpectomy or mastectomy surgery, we carry compression arm sleeves to prevent and maintain Lymphedema. You can also develop lymphedema in your lower extremity which can be contained by wearing compression pantyhose or thigh highs. Diabetics can suffer from poor circulation in their legs and feet which can improve by wearing compression stockings. People traveling on a long plane and car trips can also benefit by wearing compression stockings and knee highs to prevent blood clots and swelling in legs and feet. Health care professionals and employees standing for a long period of time also benefit by wear compression stockings to prevent swelling and pain in their legs and feet.
Gail has also attended training classes on how to properly fit for mastectomy products, which include post-surgery bras and camisoles and prosthesis for women that have had a mastectomy.
To further her goal as a resource for cancer patients and survivors, Gail began The Amazed By You Support Group. The group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the boutique, it is a great way to meet other survivors and share your story, each month a different topic is discussed.
Gail and Janice are there to help you with your recovery, listen to your story and share the information they have gained while going through their cancer journey.
